Revealing an Action Plan

Mind the Gender Pay Gap

Instead of flowers, we have prepared an action plan for Women's Day.

"Society needs to understand that there is no such thing as ‘female jobs’, or ‘male jobs’. Reducing the pay gap will stimulate the economy as women will have more resources to spend which would increase the gross domestic product. So, a win-win situation for people, the economy, and society!" - Diana Madunic, Sweden's Ambassador to Hungary, opened our pre-Women's Day event yesterday, held jointly with the Embassy of Sweden and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Hungary, to formulate concrete steps with business leaders to close the gender pay gap. During the event, our CEO, Nora Varady, alongside researchers Nora Rado and István Boza, unveiled a comprehensive document - now accessible to all - which, in addition to the current situation and causes of the gender pay gap, furnishes actionable recommendations on what companies can do to achieve pay equity.

WeAreOpen Executive Brunch

Roma Inclusion in Workplaces

Our recent Executive Brunch addressed the longstanding challenges hindering the participation of Roma individuals in white-collar professions. With a focus on education reform and challenging prejudices, we took proactive steps towards fostering a more inclusive workforce. Through open dialogue and practical examples, attendees gained insights into the obstacles Roma candidates face in the labor market and learned how to make unbiased hiring decisions.

Diving deep into the complexities of discriminatory practices, we explored the systemic barriers hindering Roma individuals from full participation in the labor market with Judit Ignácz (Author, Trainer and Speaker on DEIB), Nikolett Suha J.D. (Author, Trainer and Speaker on Equality and Inclusion) and Bettina Pocsai (Program Coordinator, Romaversitas Alapítvány). It wasn't an easy conversation, but it's a crucial one!

Pride Month for Businesses

Allyship Breakfast

We invited our fellow members and partners to an Allyship Breakfast on the occasion of Pride Month 2023. Together we uncovered the immense power of standing up for one another, dismantling barriers of discrimination, and how to create an inclusive environment that uplifts and empowers all communities.

Ádám András Kanicsár discussed the everyday norms that can foster a supportive environment for LGBTQ employees, Ádám Németh provided insights as a therapist regarding the psychological foundations of allyship, and Gabriel Mero Santucci from KPMG Hungary shared practical strategies for implementation.

The Business Case for Gender Equality

The Embassy of Sweden, the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and WeAreOpen co-organiszed a Leadership Brunch on the topic “The business case for gender equality” on 28 March 2023 at the Residence of the Ambassador of Sweden.

The event brought together business leaders to discuss the role of gender equality and diversity in their business strategy. At the event, László Molnár (Head of Division, Health and Medical Hungary and South eEast Europe, Essity) gave a presentation on the business side of gender equality. This was followed by a roundtable discussion by Judit Ignácz (Uccu Foundation and Ame Panzh), Luca Aurelia (Skanska), László Molnár (Essity), György Nagy (Sigma Technology Group), Helga Sásdi (Publicis Groupe Hungary) and Ilona Schumicky (IKEA) led by Nóra Várady (CEO, WeAreOpen).
